"Is Nutrition More Important Than Exercise?! Our Instagram & Facebook Followers Have Spoken In Our Recent Poll!"

Published March 16th, 2025 by Dr. Sam Camarata

When it comes to health and wellness, the debate between nutrition vs. exercise has been ongoing for years. We recently took a poll on our Instagram & Facebook stories to see what our followers believe matters most for overall health, weight management, and longevity.

The results are in! Here’s what our community had to say:

  • Over 70% of our followers voted for 80% nutrition and 20% exercise

  • 20% of respondents voted for 50% nutrition and 50% exercise

  • Less than 10% voted for 80% exercise and 20% nutrition

So what does this tell us? Most people agree that nutrition plays the biggest role in health!

Why Nutrition Holds More Weight in Health and Wellness

While exercise is crucial for strength, mobility, cardiovascular health, and longevity, what you eat is the foundation of how you feel, how you function, and how your body recovers. Here’s why nutrition is key:

  • You Can’t Outwork a Bad Diet – No amount of exercise will offset the damage of poor nutrition choices.
  • Food Is Fuel – The quality of your food impacts energy, recovery, inflammation, gut health, hormone balance, and brain function.
  • Weight Management Starts in the Kitchen – While exercise burns calories, your diet dictates fat loss, muscle gain, and overall body composition.
  • Inflammation Starts With FoodProcessed foods, seed oils, sugar, and food sensitivities can causechronic inflammation, joint pain, digestive issues, and poor recovery.
  • Healing and Recovery Depend on Nutrients – Protein, vitamins, and minerals support muscle repair, joint health, and immune function.

Exercise Still Matters – Here’s Why Movement is Non-Negotiable

While nutrition sets the foundation, consistent movement is essential for:

  • Maintaining muscle mass and strength
  • Improving circulation, mobility, and flexibility
  • Supporting bone health and joint function
  • Enhancing mental health and reducing stress
  • Boosting metabolism and improving insulin sensitivity

The reality? Both nutrition and exercise are essential—but food choices dictate results faster!

How to Find the Right Balance for YOU

Instead of thinking of nutrition and exercise as an either/or choice, consider how they work together. Here are some key takeaways to optimize your health:

  • Prioritize Whole, Nutrient-Dense Foods – Focus on high-quality proteins, healthy fats, fiber, and anti-inflammatory foods.

  • Dial in Hydration and Electrolytes – Hydration is more than just water—electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium (shoutout to LMNT!) are crucial for optimal function.

  • Stay Consistent with Movement – Even if you don’t hit the gym daily, find ways to walk, stretch, and move regularly.

  • Listen to Your Body – Food sensitivities, inflammation, and energy levels all provide clues about what’s working and what’s not. Consider a food sensitivity test for personalized insights.

  • Recovery Matters – Sleep, stress management, and proper recovery - chiropractic adjustments, SoftWave Therapy, infrared sauna, massage - all impact results.
